Peshawar Mourns

Thursday, December 18, 2014

As part of our follow-up to the Learning2030 summit, WGSI offered Ideation Grants to some of the participants in TakingIT Global's Sprout e-Course, a 9-week online learning experience, where participants work toward transforming ideas into action. One of the recipients, Shughla Ismail, is working on an education and advocacy campaign in Peshawar, Pakistan.

After Tuesday's attack on Army Public School in Peshawar, we reached out to Shughla, hoping that she and her loved ones were safe and unharmed. She wrote back to let us know that she is safe and expressed her deep sorrow. With her permission, we share her words below:

My family is safe but unfortunately we lost 142 children and teachers. This was a very tragic moment for all and it was a BLACK DAY in all over Pakistan. I cannot express my feelings, how sad we are, but for those little children I wrote something... and I want to share it with you,

My little hands are hurting and my tiny heart is bleeding....
My feet are not big enough, please hold me tight ... I can not walk in the streams of blood...
My little fingers always loved crayons and see what happened today... I am here... in the river of death...holding all my injured parts ...
my books are soaked in blood, dry them please.. I have to take them neat tomorrow....
my uniform is red....
mama please wash it, or I will be punished tomorrow....
Mama I was scared of flu... and see, now I am strong enough to float in blood...
The angels of God are here to take me away...mama told them I wont do mistakes again... mama told them put me back... I will swim in the river of blood, I will brush my teeth and will make my bed...I want to live...
mama tell the angel to put me down ..... mama tell them to go back...
